The infusion of bone marrow was not just a treatment for me. It was an event, one with a personal historical value.
I took my shower as usual, shaved and cut my nails before I went back into my bed to prepare for the final step of this year long adventure. I had my iPod on, listening to Barry White… was feeling happy and relaxed…
The nurse came into the room at around 10h45, made sure everything she needed and the “warmer” were ready.
I was told the bone marrow was deep frozen with Nitrogen at -196 degrees Celsius. Technicians at the lab will only take the bone marrow out before use, and put inside some sort of warm water pool for defrost. When the bone marrow is ready to be put back into the body, the bone marrow is dripped through a long tube that is wrapped around the “warmer” set at body temperature.
