I went out this morning to get my daily Hazelnut Latte. I’ve been drink this at least 5 times a week for the last 4 months I think, before which I was always having Green Tea Latte.
Almost a year ago when I came to HK to see what can be done so that life could go on a lot longer than it seemed it would. I was told coffee is bad for me, some said it’s the caffeine while others said it’s acidic. (Research have shown cancer cells can’t develop in an alkaline body)
I stopped drinking coffee as often. I used to have 2 little cups of espresso in the morning, then throughout the day I would have maybe 2 more. I would still have an espresso twice a week, just to smell the aroma… at least. So every time I went to Starbucks, I was getting Green Tea Latte, it went on for about 6 months when the time came that I have had enough Green Tea Latte. That day I walked into Starbucks as usual, scanned through the menu on the wall and picked Hazelnut Latte.
First sip of Hazelnut coffee in almost 8 years! I haven’t, or don’t remember having one since I left Boston. it was the partner of all-nighters!! Every time when we had to stay up all night to study or to finish up projects (of course the deadline has to be at 8am!!), at around 02h00 I would leave the library, get to the parking lot and drive down to the gas station… not for gas but for the Dunkin Donuts. Donuts, munchkins and my favourite Hazelnut Coffee. We all know bad espresso in Europe, but not everyone has tried bad American brewed coffee, so at least the Hazelnut flavour balances out the cons.
I don’t mean I miss Hazelnut flavoured coffee. What I miss is the memory of the Babson days… projects and paper deadlines were the worst nightmares, we didn’t get exams often and even if we did the % would be insignificant to affect the course grades much. The days of No Worries! Everyone was still so young and so energetic. I know I am only 31, but I can no longer do all those late nights, 3 to 7 days long weekends etc…
So why am I drinking Hazelnut Latte? Has it become a daily routine? Or am I just hanging onto the past?
